Managing Your Library Account Online

PLACING A HOLD ON LIBRARY MATERIALS ONLINE

All PNLS card holders can place a hold on any available, loanable materials within the province-wide SILS catalogue. Requested material will be delivered to the library you have selected when placing the hold

  1. Begin by going to the PNLS homepage and searching the catalogue for the item you are looking for.
  2. Once you have located material you want, click the 'Request It' icon.
  3. Be sure to note the availability status of the item you are requesting. For example, there may be a long waiting list for the item, and you may have to wait longer than usual to borrow it.
  4. Requesting materials will bring you to the 'Request Verification' page. If you are not logged in, you will be prompted to enter your library card number and 4-digit PIN.
  5. For delivery type, choose 'Pickup Location' and select your library location from the drop down menu. If there is no public library in your area, choose PNLS Headquarters and your library materials will be sent to you by mail. Select a cancellation date if required by checking off the box and entering the date, and click 'Submit'. This will cancel the hold if the item is not available by the chosen date.
  6. If the request was successful, you can click 'Return to Your Record' where you will find the item(s) listed. Your library will notify you by phone or email when your material is ready for pick-up
FREEZING A HOLD ONLINE

Did you know that you are able to put a temporary "freeze" on an item you have on hold? If you are going to be away on vacation or simply do not have the time to use the item you have requested for the time being, you can freeze this itme without losing your place in line.

  1. From the PNLS homepage, click on 'Login to My Library Account' on the top-right corner of the screen.
  2. You will be asked to log in. Enter your library card number and your 4-digit PIN.
  3. Once you have accessed your account, scroll down to view the list of items you have on hold
  4. Check the 'Freeze' box. If you want to freeze more than one item, check the corresponding 'Freeze' box for each item you want to freeze. Clcik
  5. Click 'Save Changes'.
  6. You will be taken to a screen with a notice stating that "The following hold(s) will be cancelled or updated, would you like to proceed?". Click 'Yes'.
  7. When you are ready to unfreeze your item(s), return to your account and you will see that the 'Freeze' box is checked.
  8. Uncheck the box(es) and click 'Save Changes'.
  9. You will again be asked to confirm changes. Click 'Yes'.
  10. Your item is no back on hold and can be picked up when it is available and you are contacted by your library.
RENEWING LIBRARY MATERIALS ONLINE
  1. From the PNLS homepage, click on 'Login to My Library Account' on the top-right corner of the screen.
  2. You will be asked to log in. Enter your library card number and your 4-digit PIN.
  3. Once you have accessed your account, scroll down to view the list of items you have checked out.
  4. To renew items, click on the corresponding box in the 'Renew' column and then click 'Renew Selected'.
  5. If you wish to renew all the items you have checked out, click 'Renew All'.
  6. You will be taken to a screen with a notice stating that "The following hold(s) will be renewed, would you like to proceed?". Click 'Yes'.
  7. The item(s) you have renewed should now have a notice in the 'Status' column indicating how many times each item has been renewed and the new due date of each item.
  8. The loan period for DVD renewals is one week. For all other library material renewals the loan period is three weeks.

Cardholders may renew their materials online. The maximum number of renewals per item is two.

Library materials cannot be renewed when:

  • You owe $10.00 or more in overdue fines.
  • Another patron has requested the item.
  • The renewal limit of 2 has been exceeded.

Please note that magazines cannot be renewed.

CANCELING A HOLD ONLINE

If you decide you are no longer interested in borrowing an item that you have placed on hold, you can easily login to your library account to cancel the hold.

  1. From the PNLS homepage, click on 'Login to My Library Account' on the top-right corner of the screen.
  2. You will be asked to log in. Enter your library card number and your 4-digit PIN.
  3. Once you have accessed your account, scroll down to view the list of items you have on hold.
  4. Check the 'Cancel All' box if you want to cancel all items in the list. To cancel only specific items, check the 'Cancel' box that corresponds to that item.
  5. Click 'Save Changes'.
  6. You will be taken to a screen with a notice stating that "The following hold(s) will be cancelled or updated, would you like to proceed?". Click 'Yes'.
  7. When you return to your account, the items you have cancelled will no longer be on your list of holds.
  8. You can also cancel items from any saved searches or lists that you have created in your account.
